Legion FAQ

How many and what type of class, does the membership
entitle me to?

The membership covers all classes including Commando Krav Maga, if you chose to participate in that way.

Is there a contract and if so, can you give me the terms?

At Legion, you'll find that there are no hidden terms and fees. No sign-up fee, no uniform fee, no patches or weapons to buy. When you decide to join the Legion, your term is whatever is decided when you sign up. It could be anything from single visits to a 2 year commitment.

Do I have to be in great shape to join Legion Fitness or CKM?

NO! The reason you join is to get in better shape! In the Legion Fitness programs, we will put you in classes that will increase your current level of fitness, no matter where you are at this point. We are shooting for superior fitness, an elite level of fitness, but we know we all won't start there. Yes, we are looking for people that are more motivated than the average person. But, we know that person is you. For CKM, you will get the most out of it if you are in decent shape. But, don't worry that you aren't ready for CKM. We'll work with you to get you where you need to be quickly. The reason we train is to get better. If we were already in peak condition, we wouldn't need to work out.

How are the Fitness Classes structured? Will I be behind the other trainees who have been training? What should I wear?

You will be in a class with 2 to 8 other trainees that are at your Legion Fitness Level. You will never be behind, because we will always keep you where you need to be class-wise and as you improve, we'll move you up. That's why we offer the Level Testing. No problem! At Legion, it is a "no spandex zone". There are no mirrors, no place on the mat to sit down and we're there to workout. So wear t-shirts, long workout pants or shorts that you won't be self-conscious about when you are on the floor doing crunches, etc. Sneakers are fine, barefoot for Yoga.

How are the classes for CKM structured such as class size, things that I will need to bring and so on? Are the CKM classes progressive in nature meaning if I miss the classes during the week on Tuesdays and Thursdays but attend both 2 hour classes on Saturday will I be behind? Are we suppose to attend each class in order to prevent being behind the class? As with anything, the more practice the better and faster I will learn but chances are I will only be able to attend the 2 2-hour classes on Saturdays and I'm not 100% certain that I will be able to attend each and every weekend... With all that said , do you think that will present a problem with me learning effectively enough to be profecient in CKM? OR will I be entirely behind when I do attend??

All of this we go through when you join our first class, no matter when you do. CKM class sizes vary from 4 to six trainees up to 10 to 12 or so. In any CKM class worldwide we require that you wear long workout pants or martial arts pants and sneakers (tennis shoes, cross training shoes or "mat" shoes like for wrestling, etc.). We require that after the first class you wear a CKM t-shirt (because we teach collar-based choke holds, and with the CKM t-shirt we can be consistent). After the first class, we require that you (men and women) wear a protective groin cup. We require that for punch pad training, hands are wrapped or trainees wear training gloves. Not required, but recommended are a mouthguard, sports goggles and chest protection (chest protection is particularly good for women for obvious reasons). All of this equipment is available at the gym. Always, always bring water and a towel. Both are available, but why pay for water if you can bring it?

You are not required to attend every class. In fact, I recommend AT MOST attending two CKM classes per week. There is no way you could attend both Saturday CKM classes and enjoy them, as you would be exhausted. The classes are tough, but fun. One to two a week, maximum. We do rotate new people into classes all the time. When you are behind, remember that CKM techniques are simple and easy to learn, and your training partners will catch you up when you are behind, and you can always schedule off-class time with Steve if there is a problem. Don't worry about missing a class here and there, we'll catch you up. One to two classes a week and you'll quickly get proficient in CKM techniques.
